Get a taste of the capital with the new London-themed afternoon tea at The Dilly. The hotel’s prime location right on the iconic Piccadilly makes it particularly natural to offer something quintessentially British.
Indulge in cakes and sweet treats shaped like iconic London landmarks: Tower Bridge, a pear frangipane with vanilla cremeux and pear and rosemary chutney; St Paul’s Cathedral, spiced plum, ginger sable and candy walnuts; Big Ben, caramel chocolate ganache, sea salt and a dark chocolate sable; and a classic red bus, a mango and passion fruit cheesecake.
All aboard the tea bus!
The tea stand has also undergone a transformation as food is displayed on a red bus-shaped tray. The menu is also tailored to the London theme and decorated in Union Jack colours.
On the level below the London sights, four homemade savoury sandwiches, including a Coronation chicken sandwich served on white bread, an egg and mustard cress sandwich served on rustic onion bread, a carrot, cucumber and coconut cream cheese sandwich layered between slices of soft country malt bread, and a smoked salmon, cucumber and cream cheese sandwich served on white bread.
London on a plate
No afternoon tea is complete without plain and raisin scones served alongside clotted cream and a sweet strawberry jam to tie together this British tradition.
There is of course a wide choice of teas, courtesy of The Tea Makers of London. For those looking to celebrate a special occasion, guests can enjoy perfectly paired glasses of champagne, including Pommery Louis English Sparkling and Pommery Brut Royal NV.
It’s served within the hotel’s sweeping open-plan Terrace. It’s hard to believe that in the 1930s, there was an outdoor pool here – one of the largest in London. Now it’s a wonderfully light, spacious and flower-filled restaurant under the hotel’s stunning glass roof.
This afternoon tea will definitely please the tourists, but is a charming treat for Londoners too. London Afternoon Tea at The Dilly is open daily from 12:30pm to 4:00pm. It’s also worth knowing that a children’s menu is also available.
